Olaplex, a new professional dye and care product for
hairdressing needs, is supposed to permanently abolish damaged hair, brittle
structure, and color damage. Magazines and blogs show photos of stunningly
shiny, strong hair. Even extreme bleaching, color differences, and always new
colors should be possible.
Is there a new magic cure for broken hair? We report here
what Olaplex can do when used and where you can get it.
To understand how Olaplex works, we first need to look at
the chemical makeup of hair. Hair is essentially made up of keratin, which
forms elongated structures firmly connected. Disulfide bridges, also called
sulfur bridges, connect the keratin molecules in the hair with one another.
This creates the typical flexibility, stability, and bounce of healthy hair.
Aggressive chemical treatments such as bleaching or a
permanent wave destroy these bonds. The damaged hair feels rougher at first.
After several passes with bleach, it looks like rubber, breaks, and, in extreme
cases, can even be pulled out in strands. That is also why responsible
hairdressers only carry out strong color changes in several steps or do not
treat the hair chemically. This extreme case happens again and again with
people who bleach their hair themselves at home.
In precisely these cases, Olaplex is used. It repairs the disulfide bonds, gives the hair its original stability and elasticity, and smoothes the surface. So it is possible to realize more extreme color differences and repair damaged hair. Hair treated in this way shines soft and feels strong and healthy again. Unfortunately, Olaplex cannot repair split ends and already broken hair. Even heavily bleached hair feels better than before after bleaching and an Olaplex treatment, and it shines, is strong, and falls like silk.
When dyeing, Olaplex is added directly to the coloring
mixture and immediately compensates for any damage. Anyone who comes to the
salon with damaged hair can even have their hair repaired before getting a new
color treatment. The new agent is also used for permanent waves. Heat and sun
damage can be improved with a deep treatment. The three different recipes can
be combined by the hairdressers as required or used together with other therapies.
The actual repair takes at least ten minutes per step. There is also a suitable
product for regular hair repair at home.
With the help of a new active ingredient, Olaplex repairs
the disulfide bridges in the hair during dyeing, care, or as a treatment,
thereby significantly reducing damage caused by coloration.
The remedy is available in three different formulations. One
(No. 1) for mixing into the coloring, one (No. 2) as professional chemical care
in the salon, and the third (No. 3) for use as a curative at home.
All three products are silicone- and oil-free and suitable
for different hair structures.
The most noticeable effects are bleached hair, perms,
colorations, and sun and heat-damaged hair. Extreme, healthy hair without
chemical treatment shows only a minor effect.
Olaplex can only repair damaged hair. There is no
improvement in naturally fragile, limp hair.
Olaplex repairs hair damage but does not care for the hair
sustainably. It would be best to use conventional hair treatments and
conditioners as needed so that your hair does not dry out and remains
resistant.
The new magic drug is currently only available in the hairdressing salon. That's a good thing, because Olaplex is a chemical hair treatment and therefore belongs in professional hands. Medium No. 3, the hair treatment for at home, is also suitable for laypeople and is also sold in salons. It is also already available on sales platforms on the Internet, but at exorbitant prices. A dealer charges more than double the usual salon price. It is worthwhile to find a hairdresser who runs Olaplex using the Google search and combine the purchase with professional advice and explanations about the hair treatment or on-site treatment.
